Clout Magazne Skin for Music Skins

CLOUT3GClout Magazine has teamed up with Musicskins.com to release a skin for the iPhone, iTouch, iPod and Blackberry, starting from $15 each. The skin is of Clout Magazine’s issue #11, designed by the legendary Todd Braturd.

Read Ewok MSK/HM’s own bio about Todd:
I like old science fiction movies from the 50’s and 60’s because it’s interesting to see how wrong their ideas about the future ended up being.  There are no flying cars, and aside from hipsters, people dont wear one-piece, silver bodysuits. This same thing end’s up being the case with most people’s lives and what their own futures hold. Most teenagers want to become rich and famous and live some glamorous ‘Mtv cribs’ lifestyle, only to end up selling life insurance or managing a used car lot.

I imagine Todd is far better at reading the future than most people.  Maybe not the future of humanity, but his own future.  As a teenager, he wanted to be involved in skateboarding, be an artist, and romance exotic large-breasted women.  In Varying proportions, he’s doing all of those things. Todd’s artwork is a true, honest reflection of his personality and his life. The same things he was interested in and influenced by as a teenager: skateboarding, pinball machine art, girls with big boobs, comic books, etc., he has transformed into his profession as a freelance artist / professional teenager. Todd’s art has evolved over the years, not so much in his subject matter or his approach to creating art, but mainly in his pursuit of perfecting his natural talent. Unlike most artists, Todd’s work has remained relatively untainted by anything other than his own inspiration and interests. In following that path, he has carved out a wide audience who naturally gravitate to his unique style and sense of humor.

Nike SB, the skateboard MAG, Volcom, Flip, Familia Skateboard Shop, Burlesque, Mega Fauna, Grace from Falling, Enjoi, Teenage Runaway, Dank Nuggzz, Crown Farmer, Girl Skateboards, Fobia, Butron Snowboards, Birdhouse, NJ Skateshop, Creature, Whale Cock, Spitfire, REAL Skateboards, Life Sucks Die to name a few.

Keeping It Moving With Jahmal Williams

jamalwilliamsThe benefits of growing up in Philly are you don’t have to skateboard to know where Nocturnal skate shop is, you don’t have to pick up a paint brush to know the upcoming exhibits at the T & P Fine Art Gallery, nor do you need to read up on the encyclopedia about the history of hip hop to jam-out to The Roots. Living in Philly gives you access to the young and thriving subculture that intertwine all of these elements.

That’s why Philly can appreciate Jahmal Williams for mixing up these elements, sharing his love for skateboarding and art as a mixed medium. Unfortunately for us, Jahmal lives in Boston, but his passion is transcending all over the country. He started a company called Hopps, which claims to be “100% skater owned and operated.” Hopp is inspired by the skateboarding and underground street culture. Hopp sells clothing, designed decks and they even have their own gallery selling some awesome art pieces. For Jahmal and the Hopps company, skateboarding is seen as an artistic expression. With this type of attitude, hopefully one day, students will be learning about Jamal Smith coincided with Monet in an art history class… now, wouldn’t that be such an idea? Haha.

Eric Koston Leaves Lakai

From Lakai:

Wish we could say this is a belated April Fool’s, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. As of today, Eric Koston will no longer be a part of Lakai Footwear. We have arrived at this decision mutually and believe it will ultimately create a better situation for all parties involved. We thank Eric for his contributions to Lakai over the last three years and wish him well wherever his path may lead.

So who do you think he’ll ride for now? Who’s Eric Koston’s next sponsor?

OBEY x Martha Cooper

OBEY Clothing has collaborated with documentary photographer Martha Cooper to create a series of product including a skateboard, hat, bag and a range of T-shirts featuring Cooper’s photography. One of the photographs has been illustrated by Shepard Fairey and will be offered as a poster by www.OBEYGIANT.COM and a T-shirt and skateboard by OBEY Clothing

In Street Shots, opening January 16th at Subliminal Projects, her photos reveal the imaginative children of pre-renewal New York City as they mined the abandoned lots of the city to create toys from trash. Cooper, renowned for her graffiti and hip-hop pictures, brings those classic images together with ones depicting inner-city kids building forts from scrap, catching flies in cola bottles and racing homemade go-karts—all without adult supervision.

Martha Cooper Rules!
