Sometimes I wish parodies were real. Enjoy this in case you’re one of the losers that didn’t buy advance tickets for tonight’s midnight screenings (myself included).
STELLLLLLLAAAAAAA
That’s right, guys – A Streetcar Named Desire is at the Walnut Street Theater starting tomorrow, January 13th and runs until March 1st. I’ve only seen the Hollywood adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece, but I’m dying to see Blanche DuBois in all of her crazy glory on stage.
Plus the Walnut Street theater, on 9th and Walnut, is the oldest theater in America, so that’s pretty rad. Tickets range from $10 – $60 depending on the seats. You can call the box office directly at 215-574-3550 between 10am and 10pm, 7 days a week, or get them online through Ticketmaster here.

Frank Miller, you robbed Me! (Get Your Shit Right!)
IF anyone knows Frank Mille
r… Please tell him I want my time and money back.
I don’t even know what was the most annoying aspect of this film but I do know that half way through my friend leaned over and whispered, “This is pushing it’s way into the top 3 worst movies I have ever seen.”
Maybe it was the fact that half the movie was a voice-over or that most of the lines are bad innuendo (so bad my friend kept joking that they must have accidentally handed a porn script to Frank Miller and he was directing the wrong film) or the fact that the main character talks to no one 50% of the time. But I think the real show-topper here was when Samuel L. Jackson waltzed out in a Nazi uniform??
I wish Dave Chappelle was still making shows for this one…
Stylistically we’ve seen it before, and it was awesome then, two movies later, it’s getting pretty old, not to mention it was hardly a good enough story to be redeeming. One lesson learned, good writers don’t necessarily make good directors, and in this case not at all.
So if you care for your money and time at all, spend it on something else. But if you really want to torture yourself and your friends with some horribly awesome, because-they-are-so-bad, one liners… The Spirit is the movie for you!
Luhrmann to Direct ‘The Great Gatsby’
Baz Luhrmann has bought the rights to The Great Gatsby, insisting that the pre-Depression novel parallels the current economic climate. The Australia director claimed that F. Scott Fitzgerald’s literary classic, which details the transition of America from the Roaring Twenties to the Great Depression, could be used to teach people about their own financial state.
“If you wanted to show a mirror to people that says, ‘You’ve been drunk on money,’ they’re not going to want to see it,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “But if you reflected that mirror on another time they’d be willing to.
“People will need an explanation of where we are and where we’ve been and The Great Gatsby can provide that explanation.”
Luhrmann also revealed that he hoped to get started on Gatsby soon because of the obvious relevancy of the story.
“I’m going to move faster than I have before. I’d be surprised if it’s another seven years,” he said, referring to the time that elapsed between Australia and his previous film Moulin Rouge.

Come Watch a Movie by Crazy Local Philly Artist Isaiah Zagar.
| So even if you haven’t heard of him and you live in Philadelphia, you definitely know who Isaiah Zagar is, you’ve seen his murals all over Philly. He does these colorful mosaics chalk full of nudity, if you take a closer look. And if you haven’t already you can check out his “art garden” on Sundays on South Street for about 4 dollars. Anyway Zagar’s film will be screening at the Trocadero this coming Monday, so come check it out and hopefully together we’ll learn more about his love for covering Philly with mosaic genitalia.
