Burgers and Kebabs

Hello peeps! I’m finally back from Europa after missing my flight last night from London. I took the day off from school and work just to update on the new McJAWN blog. Please let us know what your thoughts are about the new look at webmaster@mcjawn.com. I’m definitely digging it.

Nothing too exciting happened while I was in London. Except I was hanging out nearby the Waterloo and spotted a sweet skate spot. Someone was tagging the wall, but I missed that; however, my friend Creegunit caught it on the SD card. More updates from Wen later this week…so watch out! For now, I need to catch up on my blogrolls and recover from a week’s worth of Indian food, fish & chips and Carlbergs drafts.

London’s First Snow Day (Chinatown Bus)

This past weekend, London experienced more snow than they ever have since February of 1991… and I was there to witness it.

Being from New York, I treat snow as an afterthought. When I was younger, I loved playing in the snow with my brothers, than coming upstairs to the hot chocolate my mom made. Since then, it has been just “something that goes on in the winter.” Tell that to London. For the city that never gets snow, Monday afternoon was a pretty amazing sight. I woke up discovered classes were canceled. London never gets snow, so it is not prepared for icy roads and frozen subway lines. My professor couldn’t get to school.

Celebrating London’s first snow day in years, I went to Hyde Park with a few friends. I can tell you first hand that I witnessed a winter wonderland. Thousands of people were out building hundreds of snowmen. Even the pond was frozen over (I felt bad for the swans).

I have lived in New York for just about my entire life, but I have never witnessed this much frenzy over a little bit of snow – okay, 6 inches.

92% of women like to go solo

A new independent study undertaken for Gossard Lingerie shows that 92% Of Women Are Regularly Pleasing Themselves.

MORE women than ever before are taking time out to pleasure themselves, a survey revealed. The poll reveals 9 out of 10 are regularly taking time out for some solo action – the highest number ever. And two-thirds of women admit to pleasuring themselves three times a week, with women in London finding the time for four sessions every seven days.

The Gossard Big M Survey confidentially quizzed more than 1,000 UK women aged 18-30 with an extensive questionnaire to find out all about their sexual attitudes, habits, fantasies and practices.

The survey results clearly show how women’s attitudes and practices have changed over the decades – 92 percent of women admitting to touching themselves this year, compares with only 74 percent in 1979 and 62 percent in 1953.

Leading woman’s coach, Jessica Chiver, said: “It’s no wonder more and more women are self-pleasuring when you look at how liberated we’ve become in other areas of our lives and the shot of mood boosting hormones orgasm gives us.

“One of the best things about pleasing ourselves is that it gives us more confidence when we’re intimate with our partners – we communicate better and feel more satisfied which is good for everyone.”

Well… ykno what they say, if you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself ;)

Superfertile: The Hunger Collection

Kali Arulpragasam (aka M.I.A.’s sister), is the designer of Super Fertile, the politically-conscious jewelry line. Each season, Kali chooses a different world issue from the caste system to terrorism, and addresses them in enlightening ways. All of her jewelry is unique and each detail is deeply thought out. Her pieces are the kind that make you stop and stare because they are unlike anything you’ve seen. Super Fertile’s newest collection is called “Hunger” and “is designed to raise awareness of the current food crisis.” Kali crafted beads in precious metals in shape of staple foods such as rice, beans, sweet corn, nuts, black bean, lentil, chick pea, wheat and seeds. The pieces are crafed in sliver and some are plated in gold “to symbolize how precious these staple foods are to starving countries in the battle against the rising cost of food.” The pieces range from small subtle charms on chains to giant collar pieces and neck plates that are like armor for the modern day warrior. I lover her pieces, and some of them are so exquisite as statement pieces, that I would want to wear little else.

True to her cause, Super Fertile is donating 7% of the profits to Oxfam to help in fighting world hunger. Not only are these pieces amazing, but the concept behind them makes them all the more beautiful. Kali says, “Everyone has the right to eat.” We agree. You can help promote the cause by purchasing her pieces at Kabiri, Selfridges, and Euforia in London. I hope she starts selling the pieces state-side soon, I love them!

Animals on the Underground

If you’ve been to London, than you would know that the Underground is one of the best subway systems in the WORLD! And now animals would think so too.

The animal, originally the Elephant, was first spotted in 1988 by Paul Middlewick who was staring at a tube map during a journey from work. Since then, many other animals have joined the beloved Elephant.

Animals On The Underground are now plastered on every gut-showing-baby-tee, a portion of the profits goes to support IFAW (promoting animal welfare).
