Rock star Bruce Springsteen is planning to play a free concert in Philadelphia on Saturday in support of Democrat Barack Obama, the campaign announced Tuesday.
Here’s the info the campaign just put out…
The concert will take place on the Saturday before Pennsylvania’s voter registration deadline on Monday.
“Senator Obama is a great fan of Bruce Springsteen and is honored to have his support. This will be a great opportunity to gather tens of thousands of our supporters together in one place as we register new voters and bring new volunteers into this campaign for change,” said Craig Schirmer, the Pennsylvania State Director of the Obama-Biden campaign.
The campaign has already registered and mobilized an unprecedented number of voters in the state, and the makeup of the electorate will be fundamentally different than it was in 2004. In that election, John Kerry beat George Bush by 144,000 votes at a time when Democrats outnumbered Republicans by 580,000 voters. This year, that advantage will be about 1.2 million.
The New Jersey native endorsed Senator Obama in April, writing that the Democratic nominee “speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music…a country that’s interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit.”
The concert will take place on Saturday at Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 20th and 22nd Streets.
Gates open at 2:00 and the program will begin at 3:30.
For access to the best viewing area, preferred tickets will be distributed to those who sign up to volunteer. This can be done beginning at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the Obama-Biden campaign for change offices listed below.
General admission tickets can be secured at the following website: pa.barackobama.com/springsteen

Kickoff the School Year with Campus Philly
Every year now, for how long, I don’t know, Campus Philly gets together to bring us college students something special… a FREE concert and festival.
So this Saturday, The City of Philadelphia and its College Day Museums are shutting down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to provide you with entertainment and food.
Where? The Ben Frank Parkway, and all of its lovely museums
When? This Saturday, September 27 from 2PM to 7PM. Music starts rockin’ at 3.
How much? If you have a college ID, FREE… yes, FREE to even go to museums and crap.
Who? This one you guys might like, The Cool Kids are going to perform live for FREE.
There’s also going to be an involvement fair, and usually Franklin Paine is there for a cute little skate demo.
Definitely come out, should be fun.
For more information on what museums and what other artists are going to perform, etc. check out campusphilly.com.
The Magnetic Fields
The Magnetic Fields are coming to the Merriam Theater on October 25th, show starts at 8PM. Tickets are available here, unfortunately the cheapest tickets are 32 dollars. However, I would definitely suggest going because Stephen Merrit’s band is really really cool.

black lips/deer hunter/king kahn & his shrine…
brief intro-
hi everyone, this is amy li, fellow photographer of the mcjawn fam. anyways, i was in williamsburg (AKA hipster HQ) this past sunday for a free black lips show that was being held at mccarren park pool. honestly, i wasn’t expecting anything outrageous to happen (big mistake) and lately, i’ve been getting lazy about carrying a heavy camera with me everywhere (HUGE mistake)..sooooooo, here are some poor quality canon powershot pictures from a really serious photography major.
enjoy :B
ps. i do not believe in capitalization.
for those who missed out on sunday’s free BLACK LIPS and DEER HUNTER show in williamsburg, brooklyn.. don’t expect this post to be about them because it’s not.
this is king kahn touching his man bits, taken just SECONDS before he whipped it out
this is king kahn mooning us (deerhunter was playing)
this is king kahn and his make believe fruit (?) balls (black lips was performing)
this is a shitload of toilet paper flying around
to make things short+simple,
the show was fun. music wise, some of the bands that played were..meh. but that king kahn dude is insane and made it worth while.
