Flat Out Film Teaser

“Flat Out” Teaser from FLAT OUT PRODUCTIONS on Vimeo.

“The Australian’s call it Walkabout, a chance to escape from the routine, heading into the empty wilderness to empty the body and soul of built up trash, they call it FLAT OUT. Using the simplest and cleanest form of transport, a Track bike. Four cyclists, meet at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, to embark on a journey into extreme terrain during dangerous summer conditions, riding a massive 1200km of road in only ten days to the city of Melbourne.

With the monumental landscapes of Australia as the backdrop, a country and continent all in one that has some of the most diverse wildlife and landscapes on the planet, this challenging and hill ridden terrain proved the perfect situation to film a documentary. The riders were captured having to conquer their own inner demons to complete the journey within the ten days. Cycling an average 8 hours a day getting from one destination to the next, this experience allowed all of them to take stock and reflect, traveling on a more spiritual and inward journey. Each rider’s story being expressed individually using words, photos; drawings, music and a personal diary filmed on super 8 films. This will result in a film and book capturing the journey and experience from start to finish available later this year.”

Philadelphia… We’re Prepared!

http://media.philly.com/images/on-pgrease21-a.jpgCity workers have greased poles along South Broad Street in an effort to deter revellers from climbing them during any wild celebrations that might follow a possible Phillies victory tonight.

Street lights, signs, bus shelters and even trees have been coated by a yellowish goo that bears a resemblance to petroleum jelly.

Temporary “No Stopping” signs also have been posted along the thoroughfare warning motorists they could be cited for a violation for stopping between 5:30 p.m and midnight.

Hoping to prevent the damage and looting that followed last year’s World Series victory, police are expected to be out in force tonight if the Phillies clinch the National League title.

At Robinson Luggage, which was looted last year, manager Kevin Roemer said Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey had assured Broad Street merchants there would be a stepped up police presence.

“We’re feeling confident about what the police are going to do,” said Roemer, adding the store was taking no special precautions.

“I’m a big Phillies fan,” said Roemer, who, like much of the region has a touch of Phillies fever. “I want to see a repeat. It would be great for the city.”

“If we beat the Yankees [in the World Series] I have no idea what the celebration would be like,” he added, imagining what is not yet a certainty.

What He Did To Get His Ass LOCKED Up

YouTube Preview Image

After trying to find funny youtube videos of what Philadelphians think of Michael Vick being signed to the Eagles, I stumbled across this hilarious video. The comments are even funnier, check it out!

I love dog fighting!

And he will wear the same Superbowl ring that all the other Eagles will be wearing at the end of this season.

And you say you´r a vegitarian because you love animals so much. Are you aware how many animals that get killed when farmers harvest the crops? Animals lovers can be so extreme that they end up hating and doing more damage than the people they target and blaim. Animal abuse is wrong yes. Not the point here.

Keeping It Moving With Jahmal Williams

jamalwilliamsThe benefits of growing up in Philly are you don’t have to skateboard to know where Nocturnal skate shop is, you don’t have to pick up a paint brush to know the upcoming exhibits at the T & P Fine Art Gallery, nor do you need to read up on the encyclopedia about the history of hip hop to jam-out to The Roots. Living in Philly gives you access to the young and thriving subculture that intertwine all of these elements.

That’s why Philly can appreciate Jahmal Williams for mixing up these elements, sharing his love for skateboarding and art as a mixed medium. Unfortunately for us, Jahmal lives in Boston, but his passion is transcending all over the country. He started a company called Hopps, which claims to be “100% skater owned and operated.” Hopp is inspired by the skateboarding and underground street culture. Hopp sells clothing, designed decks and they even have their own gallery selling some awesome art pieces. For Jahmal and the Hopps company, skateboarding is seen as an artistic expression. With this type of attitude, hopefully one day, students will be learning about Jamal Smith coincided with Monet in an art history class… now, wouldn’t that be such an idea? Haha.

Check out more about Jahmal Williams and Hopp by clicking here.

UNDRCRWN Penny Hardaway Tees

Can I Live T-Shirt Can I Live 2Calling all sneaker heads, The Air Penny II dropped a few days ago.

And Philly’s UNDRCRWN is also paying their homage to the 90’s icon NBA player, Penny Hardaway. I can still remember from back in the day, the Nike “Lil Penny” commercials, with Chris Rock doing the voice overs for the puppet, haha. If you’ve forgotten or you’re some type of alien, click here to watch the commercials on youtube.

If you don’t understand the t-shirts, listen to Jay-Z’s Who you with II lyrics:

You can love me or hate me, either or
I’m a stay winnin, rock the custom drop Bentleys
Never eat at Denny’s and party like Lil Penny
can he live? Trick or main chick but if she leave
just as quick, Indian give, ha-hah

POP’s Skatepark Grand Opening

Exit Presents: Philadelphia’s newest DIY community skatepark. Grand Opening Saturday July 25th at 3pm.

E Huntingdon St & Trenton Ave
Philadelphia, PA 19125

It’s awesome to see Philly engaged in community-related projects, especially when it’s directly benefiting our fun, haha. Just found out that one of Philly’s beloved skateshop is hosting the grand opening for the POP’s skatepark. Come out and show your support.

Meanwhile, read this interview I found at dailysesh.com:

Where did the name POP’s come from?
POP’s was a lifelong neighbor of the playground and over the years he took the park under his wings and cared for it. After he passed away the neighborhood named the park after him.

How long ago did you start planning and how long has it taken to build?
This project has been in the works for 1 year exactly including meetings, design, fund raising, and construction.

How’d you guys get the spot to build on?
I was approached by a local non profit NKCDC (New Kensington Community Development Corporation) who felt like the local recreation center needed a face lift after huge budget cuts, and recent abandonment from the city. The crazy thing was how grassroots and dirty they were willing to get with us. The first 4 month’s of the project was completly illegal and under the city’s radar, but at the end of the day it starts to get hard to hide a concrete truck, wielding truck, and 15 shirtless beer gutted skateboarders… SO we were discovered by the city, and had to have a sit down. After we showed them the plans, and explained our volunteer and fundraising methods there only response was “When can you build your 2nd park!?” So we recieved the blessing and some funds and kept digging.

How would you describe the layout of the park?
The perfect little park to just have fun! We built a park for the guys that are so fed up with not having a place to go in Philly, and just relax with homies and shred.

I know it had to take a ton of work and resources, so how many people have helped out, and any specific people that deserve credit?
We have had so many amazing people helping with this project. The EXIT crew really stepped up. The master and commander and forman on the site Jessie Clayton has been unstopable! Jessie is the kind of dude that is down for anything and will do it 120% better then anyone else. I built small spots around this city with Jessie before, and I knew he was the man for the job. Since our first meeting has a devouted every single day to the park untop of working a full time job.

Anything special planned for the grand opening?
100% ear to ear smiling and shredding for all of Philadelphia.

What’s your next move? Have another project in mind?
We have a list of 10 potentinal spots for the next couple project. Raise awareness, money, and man power, and get shit done!

Anything else you’d like to add?
This project cost us $23,000, and was finished in a year… If you want to get something done DO IT YOURSELF! Keep your head up, go to community meeting, spread the word, raise awareness, and get your hands dirty, and keep pushing!

Woman from Russia breaks her own record by lifting 31 pounds….with her vagina

Tatiana Kozhevnikov, World’s Strongest Vagina

from mosnews:

A Russian woman has set a new world record, lifting a 14-kg. glass ball with her vagina muscles. Tatiata Kozhevnikova ofNovosibirsk, aged 42, has been exercising her intimate muscles for fifteen years, and has already made her entrance into the Guinness Book of Records as the possessor of the world’s strongest vagina, she proudly told Life.ru.

“After I had a child, my intimate muscles got unbelievably weak. I read books on Dao and learned that ancient women used to deal with this problem using wooden balls,” she said. “I looked around, saw a Murano glass ball and inserted it in my vagina. It took me ages to get it out!”

BLOWING MY MIND

If your going to put that much effort into virtual (is this the proper term?) skateboarding I think you might as well just skate IN REALITY. I never imagined any of this could ever exist when I was a wee young-in playing the 8-bit Mario and wondering why the princess was always getting “kidnapped” by Bowser. I think what went down was she was in cahoots with the king of the koopas and when Mario got suspicious she cried “Princess Napping”.  I hope they make a Turok for this I am definitely trying to kick some virtual dinosaur butt.

Artsy Bikes Are Anything But Bauhaus

To any of you biked-crazed kids who are looking for the hippest new ride to get you around town, Montana Transit Authority in Portland, Oregon may be the place for you. As one can see, Neal Fagen’s creations are over the top and actually quite beautiful, sporting some animal style motifs (eg. dogs and bats). Regardless of their sometimes 10+ feet of length, Neal claims they can still handle around any hazard you throw at them.

Even better is you can ride these and not lose your brakeless fixie coaster brake cred.

Eric Koston Leaves Lakai

From Lakai:

Wish we could say this is a belated April Fool’s, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. As of today, Eric Koston will no longer be a part of Lakai Footwear. We have arrived at this decision mutually and believe it will ultimately create a better situation for all parties involved. We thank Eric for his contributions to Lakai over the last three years and wish him well wherever his path may lead.

So who do you think he’ll ride for now? Who’s Eric Koston’s next sponsor?

RIP Harry Kalas

http://sportscomplex.blogs.citypaper.net/blogs/mu/files/2008/09/harry_kalas.jpghttp://www.phillymag.com/images/uploads/articles/5649_article.jpg

Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas passed out in a press box at Nationals Park today and was pronounced dead at GW Hospital. He was 73.

“We lost our voice today,” team president David Montgomery said, his voice cracking. “He has loved our game and made just a tremendous contribution to our sport and certainly to our organization.”

Nats acting GM Mike Rizzo talked to Montgomery after Kalas’ collapse but there was never really a thought of canceling the game; Montgomery told Rizzo that Kalas would have wanted them to play. There will be a moment for silence for both Nick Adenhart of Hagerstown and for Kalas.

Montgomery said that Kalas was found unconscious in a broadcast booth, where he was preparing to work Monday’s game against the Nationals. He was found by the Phillies director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m.

Montgomery called his condition serious at that time, and the Phillies closed the visitors’ clubhouse to the media.

Kalas missed most of spring training after undergoing surgery in February. The team declined to reveal details of the surgery, saying it was a “minor medical procedure.”

Kalas, who has broadcast Phillies games since 1971, was known for his distinctive “Outta here!” home run call. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame after receiving the Ford C. Frick Award in 2002. He was in the final year of a three-year contract with the Phillies. Kalas also did commercial voice-overs and narrated for NFL Films.

MVP Cole Hamels and the $20.5 Deal With The Phillies

Well, well! The Phillies’ went ahead and signed World Series MVP Cole Hamels to a 3-year, $20.5 million deal, immediately making everyone remember that they signed Adam Eaton to a 3-year, $24.5 million deal a few years ago.

The Phils had control of Hamels for the next three seasons anyway, hence the cheaper deal for Hamels than the well-known Adam Eaton disaster. But the Phillies avoid arbitration with Hamels this year and the next two, making this a good sign all around. He’ll be a free agent in 2012, and the Phillies will have to pay big for him then — but his next three years could be incredible, at under $7 million a year.

Piñata Day !?

So we started today feeling rad! You know why? because we were about to be some of the lucky few to see a wrecking ball smash a flamboyant donkey.

So we waited happily.
And then we got uber siked cause some guy started throwing candy at us.
When the kids ate the candy they started doing weird things.

After waiting for three hours we found out that the event was canceled.

This Made People Angry!

This turn of events left us bummed.

The Giant Pinata That Never Was.

Ok, so did the people at Carnival cruises not watch the news before they filled our hearts with broken dreams and false hope of 4 tons of candy? Did they not know that we burn shit and flip cars…and that’s just when we’re happy. Did they enjoy the look on our faces when it was announced that they would in fact NOT be using a freaking wrecking ball to destroy a four-story pinata. (six story my ass. As if we wouldn’t notice you gypped us two stories of confection.) Or did they think they could hold us off with a couple of bins of second-rate fruit chews while they got enough footage to CGI the whole non-event together? Bastards.

Apparently, the cops were worried that children were going to be stampeded by crazed Philadelphians jacked-up on crappy candy (and oh, how crappy it was), clawing their way for more. It was a anti-climactic end to an epic week in this city.
Photos of the tragedy to come…
