There’s a lot of cool local Philly shops. It’s cool to finally match the faces behind the stores of Made to Order, Abakus, Matthew Izzo, Blue Sole Shoes, Ubiq and Duke & Winston. Follow gophila’s Rakia Reynold’s as she takes you inside these shops to give you guys a little taste of Philly fashion.

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA: Fashion’s Secret Man, Where is He?
Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most avant-guard and futuristic fashion designers of our time. His collections cause confusion to some ///creates imagination for others. Just as his collections are unexplained, so is the man himself.
“Throughout his career, Martin Margiela has maintained an extremely low profile. He has never had his picture taken and remains backstage after his shows. All media contact is dealt with via fax. Maison Martin Margiela’s ultradiscreet trademark consists of a piece of cloth with the numbers 0-23 (see table below). The badge is attached to the inside with its four little white pick stitches, exposed to the outside on unlined garments.”
The humble MMM store in London sits on a tiny quiet street with very little traffic and no clear sign of the store; unless you knew where you were going and what the numbers meant, you wouldn’t find it.
Falling completely off the map, Margiela disappeared from his own company. Vogue UK: “Martin has not been there for a long time,” Russo told WGSN. “He is here but not here. We have a new fresh design team on board. We are focusing on young, realistic energy for the future; this is really Margiela for the year 2015.”
he disappeared into the FUTURE!

Jeremy Scott for Adidas
Awesome new video of Jeremy Scott’s latest designs for Adidas. Jeremy Scott is a really famous fashion designer who graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He’s the guy behind all those funky colors of M.I.A., Santigold, Rhianna and what-nots. The track in the back is music from Esau Mwamwaya featuring MIA and Santigold, called “Get It Up.” Check out his latest collection for Adidas with this awesome video directed by Nabil Elderkin.
R V C A Fall 2009 Collection
RVCA clothing company just came out with their Fall Collection which is now available for sale on their website. Take a look at their Fall 2009 look book, by clicking here. RVCA is an admirable company, although there’s not a local shop here in Philadelphia, RVCA definitely can relate to the whole Philly subculture. RVCA is brought together by a group of like-minded individuals from various subcultures, a collaboration of sorts, a lifestyle within itself.
PM Tenore’s intention from the very beginning has been to create a platform for RVCA, which combines art, music, fashion and a modern lifestyle in an original way. At the forefront of this vision has been RVCA’s Artist Network Program (ANP) – a venture established to showcase the talents of accomplished as well as unknown artists who inspire our generation and push the boundaries of creative excellence.
Established to promote the genuine integrity of RVCA’s subcultures while simultaneously giving back to the community, RVCA in essence is redefining the way the market views art and fashion as represented through the balance of opposites and how they coexist: water, oil; air, land; destruction, industrialization; art, science; foreign, domestic; order, anarchy; past, present.
Keep’s Ramo Looks Like Philly Soft Pretzels
Although, these pretzels are your typical generic pretzels that you find at the Pathmark, but wouldn’t it be cool if they had Philly soft pretzels? Don’t worry, I’ve already e-mailed Keep about my Philly soft pretzel design. Speaking of which, lets talk about those local soft pretzels. If you’ve been deceived by other soft pretzels (like the Philly Soft Pretzel Factory Inc. or WaWa), the BEST Philly soft pretzels are found at 8th and Washington. The Center City Soft Pretzel Co. usually doesn’t open until midnight, but I personally love going there after a rough night at the Royal Tavern or the Dive, especially since I practically live across the street.
So yeah, Keep’s Fall 2009 line is out and available to buy. These particular munchies are $75, a bit pricey but definitely delicious.

PooTrap Eliminates Poop Bags, Makes Your Dog Look Stupid
This is one of those products that teeters on the fine line between genius inventions and useless gadgets. Regardless of how useful it actually is, I’d say it’s most certainly fashion suicide for your dog.

Tying Up Loose Ends With Ron Crawford
Read the latest interview with Ron Crawford at Phrequency.com. Every time I’m away in New York, I always miss out on all the drama back home in Philly. I guess I’m the last one to get the news that Ron was terminated from Ubiq. Apparently Ron left because the owner of Ubiq, John Lee, became a money sucking vampire. What a bitch, we all know and love Ron. Not only was he the awesome friendly manager of Ubiq, but he was an official Philly socialite. He was always spotted at all the local scenestur parties and you could also find him talking to some-big-name at all the exclusive events. And I was right afterall, Ron was in Ninjasonik’s “Somebody Gonna Get Pregnant” video. Well now Ron is touring with Sneaker Pimps, hopefully, he’ll be back in Philly soon. We’ll love to have him back.
